OH YEAH SHOW YEAH! Take Your Ideas Further.

· 5-6 pages

Slide 1: Name the show. Rough in the visual language of the show.

Slide 2: Write the blurb for the show. What is this thing? Write a rationale.

Slides 3 & 4: List the work in the show. 4-5 small & cheap, easy to execute with little to no $. & 1 blue sky idea. Tight constraints, easy to execute. Showing images.

Slide 5: Window design: How would this idea work in two windows. Approx. 7 feet x 7 feet.

Slide 6: Support moodboards for the visual language.

Patrick Woolworth posted “Marc’s Park” A stop motion short he created. Woolworth collaborated with a high school student named who wanted to tell a short story about the importance of teamwork in life. His favorite sport and hobby was basketball, so we decided that we should use the sport as the method to relay his story. The animation shows two teams playing basketball in “Marc’s Park”, where they are tied with one point to go. This was a fun and enjoyable project that took place over the course of 3 classes/meetings with Marc. It was nice to be let into his world.

The founding initiative of Cooperative Image Group, Post Our Bills utilizes abandoned buildings as opportunities to brighten communities by transforming plywood window coverings into public murals.

Youth artists create their own images and learn to implement them through silk-screen techniques and stencil production. Young artists develop through peer-mentorship: working together with more experienced high-school-age printmakers, and led by professional artists. As the printed boards beautify vacant buildings across the city, youth and community gain a voice in the appearance of their neighborhoods.

So Fresh Printing is a core group of youth who are using the skills they learned as apprentices in the Co-op Clothing Tech program to create their own youth-operated screen-printing business. As a program initiated, operated, and sustained entirely by youth, So Fresh Printing exemplifies the goals of Co-op Image’s youth empowerment model.

I am really jazzed about the following things:
Some key words/terms that were mentioned: self-value, new opportunities, confidence, reinforcement, partnership and collaboration. *make this term a collaborative journey.

Showing them that they have skills and self worth that is valuable and will help them become a better person.

The relationship is a process, and the process is as important and almost more important than the finished product. Process makes us equal and easier for us to relate to them and vice versa.

What does it mean to collaborate?

What does it mean to work with others?

What is holding our community back?

How can art work in my life?

I also wanted to mention where I think I can offer the best input: I’d like to help out and be present during the Wednesday sessions, chatting and participating. I would also love to help with content development for the site, whatever that ends up needing to be. Reflection on each session? Re-caps of the projects we do? Basically I enjoy writing and can hopefully help communicate what we’re doing to a bigger audience.

Studio360 Preparation. By Justin Flood and Colby Brooks // PSU Students (by kate*)

Studio 360 contacted me a few weeks back looking for an illustrator to rethink Uncle Sam for an upcoming radio/online feature.

Over the last few years, they have been doing some conceptual “redesign” projects: including redesigning Christmas, The Gay Flag, and most recently Valentine’s Day.

They have asked professional designers (Pentagram, worldstudio, Under Consideration) to take on the challenge of redesigning these icons and they also open up the challenge to their listeners.

In addition to redesigning Uncle Sam, they are also asking a singer/songwriter to redesign the national anthem. The end results of both these projects will air the weekend of the July 4th holiday.

I proposed that we make this a PSU Graphic Design project. If you are interested in participating in this project and are a PSU DESIGN STUDENT, we are meeting Monday the 7th at 11am in room 180 in the art annex to start working on this project.

Studio 360 is sending a sound engineer to document the process. All of the student’s work will be featured prominently on the Studio360 site and on June 21st, I am sitting down with Kurt Anderson (the host) in the WNYC NPR studios to do a final wrap up interview and to discuss the process with the students.

Justin and Colby have already gotten a jump on their investigation into the tangled world of Uncle Sam. Nicole is thinking pretty hard as well.

I’m not saying there aren’t experts or that training is useless. I’m glad our nuclear reactors are built by guys who didn’t learn by swinging hammers at hunks of uranium. But every expert was once a dumb jerk who said, “I am smart enough to figure this out,” even though he had no rational foreknowledge of whether that were true.

Work for the ACE Hotel. The Official Manufacturing Company is Mathew Foster, Fritz Mesenbrink (PSU-GD GRAD!) & Jeremy Pelley. We are thing makers. After having separately worked for some years at Wieden+Kennedy and Ace Hotel, then out on our own freelancing, we wound up in a studio together and realized how much better it could be.
